Watch out for...

Silent assassins

There may be tensions between key team members, frustrations about certain functions’ performance and disagreement about what the problems are between the personalities in the rooms. When those are aired, it can be uncomfortable, but at least everyone is aware of them. The silent assassin takes a different approach by saying nothing in the meeting so if things don’t work to plan, they can turn round and say they didn’t agree with (whatever it was) in the first place. Bringing external facilitators in helps mitigate against this unhelpful behaviour. They can direct difficult conversations, air the issues and facilitate the debate so that everyone’s voice is heard without being shouted down. That way you create dialogue, co-creation and commitment without confrontation.
