Unsticking the stuck

Planning an important board or executive summit? Need to get it right and maximise the available time?

Leadership strategy sessions can often be derailed by team dynamics or an overloaded agenda that avoids the main issues. Too often they end in frustration with neither action nor accountability.

Our leadership facilitation focuses minds, creates alignment and accelerates change. We can help you achieve more in one day than in many months of meetings.

How we help:

  • Facilitate the debate to decide on a new vision/purpose or aligning (and articulating) a long-term strategy
  • Transform the effective functioning of a board
  • Increase the pace of growth
  • Gain management commitment to transform the customer experience
  • Run effective global leadership meetings to inspire and drive momentum
  • Deliver strategic offsites which energise and inspire
  • Resolve and accelerate major joint-venture initiatives and strategic partnerships
  • Deliver virtual programmes of two-three hours a week over the course of a month vs a two-day in-person workshop

Watch out for...

Silent assassins

There may be tensions between key team members, frustrations about certain functions’ performance and disagreement about what the problems are between the personalities in the rooms. When those are aired, it can be uncomfortable, but at least everyone is aware of them. The silent assassin takes a different approach by saying nothing in the meeting so if things don’t work to plan, they can turn round and say they didn’t agree with (whatever it was) in the first place. Bringing external facilitators in helps mitigate against this unhelpful behaviour. They can direct difficult conversations, air the issues and facilitate the debate so that everyone’s voice is heard without being shouted down. That way you create dialogue, co-creation and commitment without confrontation.

The Employer Brand

Work culture is a vital ingredient to sustaining success, but how does a brand create and then sustain that culture? The answer is through creating an employee experience that mirrors the customer experience. Ronan Dunne, former CEO of O2 and current Strategic Advisor to the Verizon CEO, sums this up well: ‘If you cannot turn your employees into fans there’s no way that you will turn customers into fans.’

Good PR for your HR won’t compensate for a poor Customer Experience

This month, telecoms giant Virgin Media O2, announced that it would offer staff free gender transition therapy in order to provide “support and allyship to people from marginalised communities”. Unfortunately for the customers of Virgin Media O2, the spirit of generosity that the brand shows its staff, does nothing to gloss over a dismal customer experience. Virgin O2 have to be very careful not to drive a gap between their employee experience and their customer experience. Otherwise, this chasm will cast a shadow on the very purpose of the brand itself.
